About XImage

What is XImage?

XImage is a collection of free online image tools — compress, convert, resize, crop, watermark, and background removal — that process everything directly in your browser. There is no server involved. Your files never leave your device.

Why we built it

Most image tools require you to upload files to someone else's server, wait for processing, then download the result. That means your private photos travel across the internet, sit on unknown infrastructure, and are subject to usage limits or paywalls.

We believed a better approach was possible: leverage modern browser APIs — Canvas, Web Workers, WebAssembly — to handle image processing locally. The result is a tool that's instant, unlimited, and truly private.

How it works

• Compression — Tests 15+ codec/quality combinations (JPEG, WebP, AVIF) and picks the smallest result.
• Format conversion — Uses OffscreenCanvas and convertToBlob() for instant format switching.
• Resize & Crop — Canvas-based pixel manipulation with aspect ratio preservation.
• Watermark — Canvas text overlay with configurable position, rotation, and opacity.
• Background removal — An ONNX machine-learning model running in WebAssembly, cached locally after first download (~40 MB).

Technology

XImage is built with Astro for static site generation, React for interactive tool components, Tailwind CSS for styling, and deployed on Cloudflare Pages for global edge delivery.

All heavy processing runs in Web Workers to keep the UI responsive. The site ships zero JavaScript for static content pages — only tool pages load interactive code, and only when scrolled into view.

Our commitment

• Core tools will always be free with no usage limits.
• We will never secretly upload or collect your images.
• No accounts, no sign-ups, no email harvesting.
• No ads that compromise user experience (if ads are introduced, they will be minimal and non-intrusive).
